ALFABETO

It has been a long time and, in midst of all the commotion for Covid-19, I hope you’re well and hanging in there.

Here things are good but, as for Aglaïa, it should have gone differently.....I was planning a photo shoot, new collaborations, a new line to come out at the end of February….but, we all know it by now, life had a different plan for us all.

My little business is the place where I throw some of my biggest dreams and a good dose of sacrifice + sweat.
It is the place where I express my creativity and aesthetic and it’s the source of strong hope: hope to create beauty, hope to make things better, hope to spread a message of sustainability and, why not, the hope to succeed.
To have a woman-run business becoming a success, we all know it, transfers that success to other women and that it’s so powerful to my eyes.

But I can’t deny that, in this precise moment, I am so unsure of what awaits me.
Many of us in the creative world -and not only- are feeling the same, I know that.
It is a time of uncertainty on the large scale.

So, I woke up this morning, after almost two months of fully giving myself only to nurturing my family and nest, while totally neglecting the professional in me and decided that, at least, I had to react.

There was this project which was almost ready and I wanted to talk to you about.  Even if it’s not going anywhere, at some point things will change so…here we go!

The idea of creating ALFABETO (yes, initials!!) dates back to last year when I was pregnant with baby E and I realized how strong was the need to communicate also through our appearance. Not in a superficial way, of course.
I felt beautiful, I loved my pregnant body, but it was also a different body from the one I am normally used to. It was a body I wanted to express differently, maybe in a more feminine way or a more ‘romantic’ way. I can’t tell for sure.
In that moment, in that “space” I found myself in, the desire of carrying MY letters grew bigger…

It all became more real while chatting in a cafe with a friend and we both agreed about how we would have loved Aglaïa’s initials to be created.

Be it your own initial or, more often the one of somebody you love, somebody you want to carry around or just be reminded of every time you see that letter, everyone has a personal affair with at least one letter ;)
I always thought that initials brings a sort of pride with them: it’s like softly telling the world about your special ones.

It was only at a later time that I also found out of something called “The name-letter effect”, which is the tendency of people to prefer the letters in their name over other letters in the alphabet. These preferences are unconscious and inadvertent.
I am sure you have a favorite letter, too, right? Is it in your name? :)
In my case are my kids’s initial but, one of them is also my own initial… :)

After that coffee I started creating my “ALFABETO” in Aglaïa’s style: bold, elegant and sculptural. I instantly fell in love.

So, ‘B’ and ‘E’ are on my neck and S’, ‘L’, ‘O’, ‘C’, ‘V’ are also done.
A’, ‘J’, ‘K’, ‘M’, ‘D’ and ‘R’ are next on the making!

ps. The letters are roughly 2.5cm high and, AS SOON AS MY SUPPLIERS RE-OPEN, I will be thrilled to share them online and make them for YOU!!!!!

Stay tuned!

Pps. Only for this project I will offer a thick, gold plating as an option!Yay!!

Stay healthy and safe!

With love,

Elisa
